Inverness is about 41 miles from the shop, roughly an hour: US-41 north to Hernando, SR-200 northeast toward Ocala, then over to US-27 on the west side of town. Inland Citrus County is lake-and-river country with a lot of rural acreage, so the work we see from here is a mix of boat trailers, farm trailers and fabrication.

The Tsala Apopka chain and the Withlacoochee

Inverness sits on the Tsala Apopka chain — the Floral City, Inverness and Hernando pools — a long string of shallow, grassy lakes along the Withlacoochee River. Lake Henderson is right downtown, with Wallace Brooks and Liberty parks on its shore. The water is shallow and full of vegetation, so the boats are jon boats, bass boats, pontoons and airboats, and the trailers get backed in deep at ramps that don't drop off fast. That puts hubs and lights underwater on nearly every launch.
